Garden Club

Tuesday, March 10th, 2015

Earlier this school year, some of the students of St. Joseph School and their families gathered on a sunny Sunday afternoon in October to build the school gardens. Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Murray enlisted the help of a number of eager parents who arrived with tools and shovels in hand. Students were put to work sifting the compost while parents, under the guidance of Mrs. Laurie Hellstrom, (4th/5th grade parent) built the beds. Once the frames were complete, they were placed on the prepared site and then filled with the compost.

Since this garden building event, the Kindergarten class has planted garlic. They must now be patient and wait until spring to see what sprouts in the garden, and to plant any further crops! We are looking forward to starting some seedlings for spring planting, and possibly having a plant sale. Stay tuned for further updates!

Food Pantry Food Drive

Friday, November 22nd, 2013

With the holiday season right around the corner, area food pantries are preparing for what is expected to be one of the most challenging and demanding times of the year. St. Joseph School in Fairhaven recently managed a food drive and collected boxes of canned goods and other nonperishable food items. Students from Grade 8 recently spent a day delivering and helping sort and bag items at the M.O. Life Food Pantry in New Bedford. The M.O. Life Organization (Murphy and Others Living Interdependently for Future Endeavors) was founded by Mr. Charlie Murphy, and offers assistance to people with disabilities. The organization offers support through employment, independent living, education, and community and social interactions. The M.O.Life Food Pantry was founded in 2000, and was thrilled to see young people wanting to help out and make a difference. For more information on making a contribution or volunteering, call 508-992-5978. Also, visit the M.O. Life website or facebook page for M.O. Food Pantry.
