2014 Science Fair

Posted: January 28th, 2014

Students participated in the annual Science Fair on Thursday, January 23rd.

Students in Grades 4-8 were required to complete individual Science Fair projects, all following the scientific method, and exploring  background research.  Students in these grades were judged throughout the school day by area professionals, scientists, and students from Bishop Stang High School.  In the evening, families were invited to attend the award ceremony and speak with the students about their projects through personal presentations.  The enthusiasm for science seemed to become contagious, especially among the youngest of students.

Students in Preschool through Grade 3 completed classroom projects, and many of the students opted to present individual projects as well.  In Mrs. Cronan’s preschool class for example, students made daily observations of carnation flowers turning different colors once placed in colored water. They compared their hypothesis’ and drew data tables showing the results.  The students in Grades 6-8 who received the highest scores will advance and compete in the upcoming regional Science Fair which will be held in March at Bristol Community College.  We wish them our best, as they are already winners for doing their best!
